What We Are
We are a discussion-based forum for anyone who is interested in the subject of self-injury, whether or not they are a self-injurer. If you can't take self-harm seriously, you are not welcome here.

What is self-injury?
Self-injury is deliberate, repetitive, impulsive, and non-lethal harming of oneself. Forms of self injury include, but are not limited to: cutting, scratching, burning, interfering with a wound's healing, bruising self, punching self or objects, or hair-pulling. It is often used as a coping mechanism for overwhelming emotions or emotional numbness. Usually, it is a sign of a deeper mental health issue.

How to Join
1) Thoroughly read the rules of conduct (below).
2) Go here
3) Once you're approved, fill out the questionnaire (optional).
4) Let the discussion begin!

Rules of Conduct
  • Be respectful and supportive. Debate is welcomed so long as it never involves a personal attack. No name-calling. Absolutely no classism, racism, sexism, homophobia, etc. Intolerance will not be tolerated.

  • No flaming or trolling. Self-explanatory.

  • All community promotions must be put under an lj-cut tag and must be on topic. Community promos unrelated to mental health will be deleted.

  • Quizzes and memes belong in your personal journals. Posts with quizzes and memes will be immediately deleted.

  • Anything potentially triggering MUST be put under an lj-cut tag. We have zero tolerance for subjecting people to triggering material. Read this if you don't know what a trigger is.

  • It feels great to vent, but this is not the place. There are dozens of LJ communities for this purpose. Check out depression for your venting needs.

  • Analyzing the connection of self-injury to emo culture is wonderful. Dismissing self-injurers as "emos" is absolutely not okay. Likewise, no one will be invalidated for belonging to a subculture.

  • No unreadable colors, unreadable typing or wEiRd cAPitLizAtiON.

  • It is not our purpose condone nor condemn self-injury. It is inappropriate to encourage self-injurious behavior; it is inappropriate to harass someone about it.

Failure to comply with the community rules will result in a ban.
